Biography

Exhibited at the first Dutch Artfair in 1977 in the Sonesta Koepelkerk in Amsterdam.

She has produced works for the municipal and national governments which are hanging in various public buildings throughout the Netherlands.

She also has had exhibitions in Friesland, The Hague and Amsterdam (see list). At one of her expositions in the Rode Hoed Theatre in Amsterdam, she also has given a lecture and a poetry reading of her own work in connection with a project for the Hoge School of Amsterdam. She has also presented readings, lectures and a slideshow for the Amsterdam Lions Club.

Her background is classical academic painting which stems from the figurative school. Hans Engelman from the Tilburg Academy and Professor Jutka Metzger from the Amsterdam Rijksacademy were amongst her instructors. She has also worked with an instructor from the Rietveld Academy in an effort to go beyond the restrictions imposed by classical methods and materials.

Her work has progressed under the influence of Bauhaus (ideas and experiments of the painting) in other directions, for example abstract expressionism She draws inspiration from from Rothko and Motherwell amongst others.

Nowadays her artistic world and expression exhibits elements of both a figurative and an abstract nature.

Review

Review of exhibition opening at Galerie Biedenbach by French Art Historian:

Les oeuvres de Barbara Brèche sont troublantes, dramatiques.
Fragilité et force, passion et poésie émanent tour a tour de chaque toile pour se conjuguer au rhythme de la force virile de Beethhoven et de la profonde sensibilité de Bach dont elles s'inspirent.

Sublimation des sens et de lêtre!

Quant a ses poémes, comédies tragiques ou tragiquesde la comédie, ils furent recités dans une ambience élégante et stylee, digne de leur portée.
